Young and Old Flourish Within God's Limits
FOOD FOR OUR SOUL: (Exodus 7:6-7 and 2 Chronicles 34) Whether Young or Old Let God Set Your Limits Not the World
When we are young, we are told we are too young. When we are middle age, we are told to wait our turn. When we are old, we are told we are too old. But age doesn't matter to God. If God calls us to something, He says, I am sufficient for all you need to fulfill My plan for you.
The wisdom of the world limits us. God's wisdom says, the just shall live by faith. (Romans 1:17) God calls us at every age to: "Trust in the Lord with all your hearts and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Age does not limit what we are capable of doing if God calls us to His work. In my Bible reading today, I was reminded that Moses was 80 years old when he answered God's call to rescue Israel from slavery. And then Josiah was 8 years old when he became King. In his childhood, he began to seek God. At the age of 20, he rebuilt the Temple his grandfather King Solomon built. Our minds tend to limit us in what we perceive we can do. And there are realities to being young and getting older. But if Christ calls us to His purpose, He will supply our every need.
Whether young or old, let God define the limits by daily living with faith in Him. And don't let others set limits for you. As Paul told young pastor Timothy, "Do not allow them to despise you for your youth." (1 Timothy 4:12) And if you are older remember God's promise, "They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him." (Psalm 92:14-15)
